The bulk of the collection (1881-1909) consists of correspondence, financial statements, receipts, and legal documents pertaining to Gilliam's mercantile business. Family correspondence (1882-1898) consists of letters to and from Gilliam's daughter, Sallie Myrt while living in Maxeys or while she was attending LaGrange Female College. Other correspondents include Lucy Durham writing from Agnes Scott College (Decatur, Ga.) or Athens (Ga.) and Maude Williams. This collection contains Claude Williams, Jr.'s papers related to his businesses in Athens, Georgia, his military training and service during World War II, and his uncle Herbert Williams' military service during World War I. The business records mainly pertain to Georgia Outdoor Advertising's purchase of other advertising companies as well as the board of directors' meeting minutes. Material related to Herbert Williams' service as a volunteer ambulance driver in the American Field Service during World War I include a photograph album, copies of the "American Field Service Bulletin", maps of France, and his medals. Much of the papers pertaining to Claude Williams' serivice during World War II are training materials and his notes from the United States Army Infantry School at Fort Benning near Columbus, Georiga. Also included are some Williams family photographs and a book on the family's history focused on Claude and his wife Charlotte. Note that box 1 folders 1-2 contain material written in French.

The collection consists of papers of Edwin King Lumpkin from 1881-1921. The majority of the collection pertains to Lumpkin's Athens (Ga.) law firm, Lumpkin & Burnett and includes mainly correspondence relating to law cases of Lumpkin and his partner Wiley B. Burnett. The collection contains personal correspondence to family and friends, including his brother Joseph H. Lumpkin, and his wife and children. The personal correspondence pertains to his law practice, social life in Athens (Ga.), Lumpkin's interest in national and state politics, and in particular the campaigns of kinsman Hoke Smith. The J.T. Dudley papers (1906-1912) contain correspondence dealing with buying and selling land throughout the South. The papers of Edwin K. Lumpkin, Jr. (1910-1915) consist mainly of correspondence relating to his legal practice. The papers of Lumpkin's law partner, Wiley B. The collection consists of papers of the Tate family of Gordon and Pickens counties, Georgia from ca. 1849-1975. The papers consist primarily of correspondence, both business and personal. The business correspondence relates to the Tates' involvement in the Georgia Marble Company (Tate, Georgia) and the Kennesaw Marble Company (Marietta, Ga.). The personal correspondence is mainly between Edna Ferguson Tate and her children Sarah and William Tate. Sarah's letters are from Agnes Scott College (Decatur, Ga.) where she was a student and from Orlando (Fla.) where she took a teaching job. William's letters are first as a student and later as an instructor and Dean of Men at the University of Georgia and contain a substantial amount of material relating to activities at the University and events in Athens, Georgia. Other correspondents include Philip May Tate, Stephen C. Tate, Florence M. Tate, and Samuel Tate. The collection also contains photographs of the Tate family and the Georgia Marble Company; account books ca. 1882-1904 pertaining to Sam'l & S.L. Tate & Co. (a general store) and the Georgia Marble Company; and materials relating to the history of Pickens County (Ga.).

The bulk of the collection relates to Henry Pattillo Farrow and documents his involvement in Republican politics in Georgia during and after Reconstruction; his positions as Georgia Attorney-General, U.S. District Attorney, collector of customs for the Port of Brunswick (Ga.), and as postmaster of Gainesville (Ga.). Materials pertaining to Farrow's administration of the Porter Springs resort Queen of the Mountains include hotel ledgers (1877-1896), account books (1886-1892), registers (1893, 1899), a cash book (1886-1889), a memorandum book (1886-1904), and employees lists (1889-1891). From 1907-1937, the collection consists of business and family correspondence of John A. Whitner (Farrow's son-in-law) and Henry F. The collection consists of the literary estate papers from two filing cabinets of the offices of the Gone with the Wind Literary Rights, arranged and labeled as they were. One cabinet contained papers dealing with the foreign translations of the book, a Japanese musical production of Gone with the wind, plagiarism accusations from Susan Lawrence Davis, David Selznick musical rights, local museums and Margaret Mitchell namesakes, and fan mail. The 2nd cabinet dealt mainly with a Stephens Mitchell lawsuit against Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer over sequel rights and includes court documents and correspondence. There are also papers relating to his lawsuit against Showcase Atlanta for a stage production titled "Scarlett Fever." Also included are printed material, phonograph records, videotapes, and cassette tapes. Of special interest are letters from Gone With the Wind movie actors, post-World War II letters from translators of Gone With the Wind in France and Czechoslovakia, a journal of Wilbur Kurtz written while he was advisor for the filming of the movie, and gossipy letters to Margaret Mitchell from his wife Annie Laurie Kurtz as she watched the filming.
